RideScan files international patent application

News ยท September 2026

Edinburgh, September 2026. RideScan has filed an international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), building on the UK patent application it filed in October 2025.

The application covers RideScan's approach to detecting anomalies in the operation of autonomous systems. RideScan monitors robots independently, using the telemetry they already produce, without adding sensors and without any access to the robot's control.

Why independent monitoring matters

As robots move into warehouses, factories, energy sites and public spaces, the people responsible for them need a clear answer to a simple question: is this robot behaving as expected? Today, most of that insight comes from the same vendor that builds and runs the robot. Other safety-critical industries separate assurance from operation. Robotics has yet to do so, and RideScan is building that independent layer.

What the PCT filing means

A PCT application is one international filing that keeps open the option to seek patent protection in more than 150 countries. It gives RideScan a clear path to protect its technology in the markets where customers and partners deploy robots, as the company expands beyond the UK.

"Independent assurance is a layer the robotics industry hasn't had," said Dr. Shivoh Chirayil Nandakumar, Founder and CEO of RideScan. "Filing internationally lets us build it with confidence and bring it to operators, integrators and partners worldwide."

About RideScan

RideScan is an Edinburgh-based robotics safety and assurance company. Its platform analyses robot telemetry to give per-mission risk scores, anomaly detection and uncertainty measures, working across robot types as an independent monitoring and trust layer. RideScan detects and reports; it does not control robots or require remote access.
